THE Ohio State Engineering Honorary

A community of undergraduate engineers and architects supporting each other and serving the OSU and Columbus community since 1924!

Applications will open August 1, 2025!

About Us

Texnikoi, founded by Arthur C. Avril, has been part of OSU engineering since 1924. Ever since then, we have fostered professional and personal development through:

  • Service to the OSU and local community
  • Social events
  • Professional development events
  • Scholarships

Texnikoi is an engineering honorary for academically achieving students who are also highly involved in their campus community. We are committed to recognizing engineering students that present a well-rounded education by displaying extracurricular involvement, community service, and academic excellence in the College of Engineering. Once admitted, students will be pushed to develop professional social skills and relationships to aid them in their future endeavors.

Texnikoi also recognizes recent OSU graduates who display qualities of leadership, integrity, and excellence as exemplified by active participation and leadership in their post-graduate activities.

History of Texnikoi

Texnikoi was founded in 1924 as an honorary organization for students in the College of Engineering. TNK's purpose is to recognize engineering and architecture students who are involved in the OSU community and extracurricular activities. Many students excel not only in coursework but also in fostering the OSU community and TNK is here to recognize that. After almost 100 years of TNK we still strive to continue the original goal.

Arthur Avril was one of the founding fathers of Texnikoi, and the first president of the organization in 1924. Although Avril graduated from Ohio State in 1925 he remained in close contact with Texnikoi and the OSU community up until his passing in July of 1996.

"The original 12 members of Texnikoi were engineering students who were heavily involved in extra-curricular activities, and scholastically had better than a ‘b’ average... but not as good as an ‘a’. I do not remember who first mentioned the formation of an organization, but it sounded like a very good idea... so the original 4 or 5 had friends in all of the engineering colleges so that we were able to gather together a very fine group of 12 who became the founders of what is now known as Texnikoi." - Arthur Avril

In 1989 he raised close to $250,000 for his organization by auctioning off his 1954 Mercedes Benz 300SL Gullwing. It is this donation that has allowed for the $10,000 in scholarships awarded to outstanding members each year, and for the coverage of operating expenses of the honorary.

Find the Texnikoi plaque in Hitchcock Hall, near the doors on the west side entrance.
